... enter a formula ?

Tap the element buttons to add an element to the formula.

To add a numerical suffix push the button (1) . The numerical value displayed on this button will be added as a numerical suffix.

To change this number use the slider (2) .

To change the range of the slider tap one of the labels(3, blue squares) . A window will appear. Enter the minimum and maximum values and tap apply.

Instead of the slider a NumPad can also be used. Tap the button (1) to switch between the slider and the NumPad. Tap the buttons (2). The value (3) can be added as a numerical suffix by tapping.

... edit a formula ?

Tap the "Enter Edit Mode" (1) button.

The background of the formula will change from black to grey.

Tap a symbol for selection. This symbol will be highlighted. Tap an element button to change the selected symbol. Numerical suffixes can also be changed.

Tap "Leave Edit Mode" to return.

... select elements ?

There are two possibilities to change element buttons:

First possibility:

Tap the "Element Browser" button in the main window (bottom toolbar).
Select an element from the list and select or de-select an element using the switch (1).

Tap "Done" when finished.

Second possibility:

Tap the "PSE" button in the main window (upper toolbar).

Tap "Element Selection".

All non-selected elements are displayed in grey. Selected elements are displayed in orange. To select or de-select an element tap an element.

Tap "Done" when finished.
Rearrangement of elements

To determine the order in which the selected elements appear in the main window use the element browser. Switch to selection (2) and tap the rearrangement button (1). Rearrange elements by using the left handles (3).

In the main window tap the sort button to switch between atomic weight and your custom order.

... use enlcosing marks ?

Tap "(..." for an opened parenthesis (1).

Tap "...)" for a closed parenthesis (1). The "add numeric suffix" button (2) will become highlighted. It is mandatory to provide a numeric value.

Tap an amino acid button to display the properties and formula of the corresponding amino acid.

Tap the sequence. A table will appear. Tap "Edit" to delete an amino acid.

Tap a row to exchange the corresponding amino acid.

When finished tap "Apply" to commit changes.

After selection of a row (see above) tap "Select" for a new amino acid or tap "Cancel" to dismiss the dialog box.

... add posttranslational modifications ?

Select the desired posttranslational modification and tap "Select".

The selected modification will be added to the list.

Tap "Apply" when done.

... import sequences from uniprot.org

Enter an accession number. The entry will be loaded (internet connection required).

Select the range (from..to) and tap import to load the selected sequence.

To determine the accession number tap the uniprot-symbol. The uniprot website will be loaded.

Perform a search and copy the accession number. Dismiss the website by tapping the back-button and paste the accession number into the search field.

1. Select acid or base
2. Enter the values for molarity and volume.
3. Enter a pK (or choose an acid or base from the list : see below) or turn the strong switch on.

The pH value of the acid or base will be calculated.

Even if a solution is active, the pH value will be calculated and displayed for the current values.

Tap the blue button (see above) and a list of acids or bases will appear. It possible to switch between weak acids and multiprotic acids.

... generate a solution of acids and bases ?

Then tap the (+)button (1) to add the component to a solution.
